2026-04 Bug Fixes and Maintenance

Intercity Access Functionality and Documentation

Release Date: 4/10/26

The functionality and documentation for Intercity Access (a module with inputs set under the Access page) was improved and clarified.

Access improvements now are driven from a single county's economy, consistent with the estimation dataset. In the case where a Region is made of multiple counties, you select a single county within the region (previously labeled "City of Interest"). The use of the economic data is now consistent with the research paper that is implemented.

We clarified input labeling in the interface and guidance (and revealed 1-hour employment as an editable variable). We updated the import template to ensure back-up and re-import of projects produces consistent results. The import spreadsheet change is backwards compatible.

Documentation on the use of Intercity Access has been clarified and brought into line with the user interface improvements.

Some related reporting bugs were also fixed. All of the following appear on the Results page.

  • The Economic Impact > Impact Breakout report data is now more consistent with the Economic Impact > Total by Industry report for Access effects.
  • The Tracing/Validation > Market Access Impacts – by Source report now shows the Regional Market measure directly used in the access calculations (instead of the precursor combination of input values).
  • On the Tracing/Validation > Market Access Impacts – by Source report's bottom table and Market Access Impacts – by Industry report, Airport, Rail Freight, Passenger Rail, and Water Port metrics now show cumulative values instead of average values, which improves traceability to Tracing/Validation > Project Impacts by Industry and Economic Impact reports.

You can rerun your projects to see these reporting changes.

This change only affects results for projects that had Intercity Access changes for multi-county economic data Regions. Results were previously overestimated relative to the literature.

Future Access module changes may include:

  • Further refinements for multi-regional analysis using overlapping travel markets.
  • Updated functionality for airport and port size changes.
  • Improved integration with benefit-cost analysis.
  • Clarified reporting of affected industry groups by source of impact.

Please notify us if you have any questions about available intermodal terminals or other aspects of the Intercity Access module.

Travel Cost Override Saving

Release Date: 4/10/26

We corrected a bug introduced with the release of new primary Travel Characteristics fields that caused the Travel page to reset to the default inputs view when saving Travel Cost Override inputs.

Detailed Multi-Report Results

Release Date: 3/10/26

We adjusted how Export Detailed Results (newly released in February 2026) provides several reports when multiple projects are included in a single export workbook. For reports with mode detail provided in columns (such as Value of Benefits – By Mode, Value of Emissions by Mode, Change in Travel, and Cost Savings by Type), each project is displayed as a separate table within the worksheet for that report. This makes it easier to analyze outputs, when projects exported together have different modes involved.

Please let us know if machine-readable Detailed Results exports would be a priority for your agency.
